Welcome to the website for Tribute to Venus Carmichael, the only known tribute band to the legendary – some say mythical – singer-songwriter of the same name. Born and raised in Arbroath, Venus had a late Sixties hit with So Said the Clown before quitting the band and leaving for Los Angeles, where she lived in the Canyon area not far from the likes of Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Mama Cass, Jackson Browne, and various members of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Her first two albums, Voyage to Venus and Girl in the Picture, were recorded there, with a third, Crossed Wires at the Crossroads, in 1979 when she briefly relocated to England. All are now unfortunately deleted, the original pressings lost in the welter of record company takeovers and reorganisations since then.
Venus herself is still around somewhere. We’re not sure where, although the most likely guess would be somewhere in the States, living out of her beloved Dormobile. But she could be anywhere – she’s told stories in her blog of time spent in Scotland, England, France, Spain and Germany as well as Stateside. Bit by bit, she’s retelling her amazing life story on her blog – check it out!
Even if you’re her biggest fan, you might be surprised to hear some new VC material in our performances and on our album and EP – but then, we have our sources….
Go to ‘Buy‘ for our merch, and ‘Come See‘ for forthcoming gigs. If you’d like to be kept up to date by email, or you’re a famous rock journalist seeking further illumination on Venus, get in touch via the contact thingy below.
